Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how SurfNav collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use SurfNav's surf-forecasting, recommendation, account, feedback, analytics, and connected social-publishing features.
2. Information we may collect
Depending on the features you use, SurfNav may collect account information, profile and surf preferences, approximate or submitted location information, board preferences, recommendation searches, session feedback and journal entries, device or usage data, and information you voluntarily submit to the service.
3. Connected social-platform data
If you connect a third-party social account such as TikTok, SurfNav may receive information made available through the permissions you approve. This can include authorization tokens, account identifiers, basic profile information, and permissions needed to create or publish content on your behalf. SurfNav only uses connected-platform data to provide the connected features you request and to maintain their security and reliability.
4. How we use information
We may use information to:
- provide surf forecasts, recommendations, and personalization;
- save account, board, profile, journal, and preference information;
- operate authorized social-publishing features;
- measure service performance and improve SurfNav;
- detect errors, abuse, security issues, and operational failures; and
- respond to user questions, feedback, or privacy requests.
5. TikTok and other social publishing
When you authorize SurfNav to interact with TikTok or another supported social service, SurfNav uses the granted access only for the functionality you requested, such as preparing or publishing authorized SurfNav content. SurfNav does not require you to provide your third-party account password. Authorization tokens and related credentials are treated as sensitive application data and should only be retained for as long as necessary to operate the connected feature or until access is revoked, subject to legal and technical requirements.
6. Sharing of information
SurfNav may share information with service providers that are necessary to operate the product, such as hosting, infrastructure, analytics, mapping, data, and authorized social platforms. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the security of SurfNav or its users, or as part of a business transfer. SurfNav does not sell personal information for money.
7. Data retention
SurfNav retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing the service, maintaining security and reliability, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and feature involved.
8. Revoking connected-account access
You may revoke SurfNav's access to a connected third-party account through that platform's account or authorization settings where supported. Revocation stops future authorized access, although information already retained may remain temporarily where necessary for security, legal, backup, or operational purposes.
9. Your choices and requests
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with SurfNav, subject to applicable law and reasonable identity verification. Privacy requests can be submitted through the contact or feedback mechanisms available within SurfNav.
10. Security
SurfNav uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and users should protect their own account credentials and promptly revoke access they no longer want to maintain.
11. Children's privacy
SurfNav is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that such information has been collected without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
SurfNav may update this Privacy Policy as the service changes. The current version will be posted on this page with the most recent update date.
13. Contact
Questions or privacy requests can be submitted through the contact or feedback mechanisms available within SurfNav.
